Millions of people have chosen to visit the Iranian city of Mashhad over the past 20 days which led to the first five days of the Nowruz celebrations.
According to a media report, a total of 4.1 million people visited Mashhad, which is home to the holy shrine of the eighth Shia Imam, Imam Reza (AS).
To celebrate the Persian New Year, which this year coincided with the holy month of Ramadan, visitors came from near and far.
Iranians visit the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) throughout the year, but during major religious and cultural events, hotels and lodging facilities in Mashad are heavily booked as the number of pilgrims to the shrine remarkably surges.
